The Blood-Type Diet a Review.

Blood pressure reader

"The book endorses the Blood-Type Diet, which claims that a person’s blood type is the secret to unlocking happy, healthy bodies"

The book, “Eat Right 4 Your Type,” written by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo was published in the late 1990s, but became very popular in the early 2000s. The book endorses the Blood-Type Diet, which claims that a person’s blood type is the secret to unlocking happy, healthy bodies. D’Adamo claims that people with particular blood types react better to specific foods and exercises. For example, an O type would be happiest with a diet filled with meat and cardio exercises, while someone with type A blood would thrive on mostly fruits and vegetables with yoga-type exercise. This, like many other fad diets, became immensely popular then plummeted over time when, upon further investigation, scientists claimed the whole premise to be false.

"Two weeks after the switch my father bragged he hadn’t taken a pepto-bismol in 5 days and my mother said she felt she had more energy than ever before."

My mother recently took on the blood-type diet. She received the recommendation from my grandmother, who actually gave us the book “Eat Right 4 Your Type” years ago. Back then, my mother didn’t have the time or the energy to make a switch in the family’s diet. However, in the past few months she has been revitalized in the cause, inspired by her best friend who is trying to become a nutritionist. So Mom got rid of almost all the fatty foods in the house, (save a basket filled with baking chocolate for church goodies) read quickly through Dr. D’Adamo’s book and ordered the complimentary book “Cook Right 4 Your Type” and within a week, the house was cleansed.

Two weeks after the switch my father bragged he hadn’t taken a pepto-bismol in 5 days and my mother said she felt she had more energy than ever before. Personally, I miss my junk food, but I do highly enjoy the change in eating. Fruits and vegetables are now more prominent in my meals and the recipes from both books are delicious and nutritious.

"The theory doesn’t stand against the scrutinizing eyes of science."

So do I believe in the blood-type diet? Actually, no. I don’t think that my blood type decides what foods and exercises are best for me. The theory doesn’t stand against the scrutinizing eyes of science. But what about the way that people feel afterward? Why do both my parents (and myself) feel so healthy and happy on this diet? Of course we would, by cutting out fat and eating more fruits, vegetables, and lean meats we can’t help but be healthier. I think that while Peter D’Adamo’s reasons aren’t factual, he did encourage people to make a permanent change to a healthier, more balanced diets.

"It’s because the book takes people away from unhealthy, fattening foods and pushes them toward a more balanced and organic diet."

The reason why the blood-type diet works isn’t because blood-type decides what foods are best for someone. It’s because the book takes people away from unhealthy, fattening foods and pushes them toward a more balanced and organic diet. Other diets claim a cure in a week, or the ability to eat anything you want and still lose weight. Dr. D’Adamo’s theory would have people believe that because their blood-type never changes, they should stay on this diet for the rest of their lives, something that would be a very hard selling point for any other fad diet.

"Besides the books there’s also a website dedicated to sharing healthy recipes."

The blood-type diet books give their readers many healthy recipes to eat and enjoy. The mass amount of resources couples with this diet is another reason for its success. Besides the books there’s also a website dedicated to sharing healthy recipes. And healthy doesn’t mean a loss of flavor. “Eat Right 4 Your Type” and “Cook Right 4 Your Type” is low in fat, filling and delicious and I would recommend it. While your blood type does not determine which foods are right for you, changing your diet to be more healthy will not leave you dissatisfied.
